My last Blog Post. These are the live tweets from the very last Inepd International Event ever on the 16th March 2010 at 8pm GMT in Amsterdam.
Humanitarian Couple of the Year Grand Final
I have such mixed emotions tonight.
Over the last three years I have put so much effort in to making the Humanitarian Couple of the Year Awards a success.
Part of me also knows this will be the last. I don't think any other organisation will carry this forward despite the promises.
When I left the Inepd office this afternoon I felt a sadness that I have never felt before. I grief and exhaustion that left me feeling just numb.
Gary from accounts and I were the last to leave the office.
Poor Gary was completely spent. He still felt responsible for the destruction caused by the DFID Audit.
Gary's also has post-natal depression caused by his breastfeeding difficulties and missing the birth of his first child.
The Inepd collapse has really taken it's toll on him and seems to be the last straw.
As we handed over the keys to the administrators, met police, fraud squad and the Financial Services Authority officers.
I knew then, this was really the end of Inepd International.
I feel so proud of my involvement with Inepd International and all we achieved.
We constantly broke new ground in marketing and communications as well as program design.
We were the cutting edge and I know that although Inepd International today is finally finished many will follow in our footsteps.
Some merely imitators, others will take the challenge and set a new standard.
I am now on my way to Humanitarian Couple of the Year Awards. Just arrived in Amsterdam a while ago.
It's the first time I have been on public transport since I was a schoolgirl and the second time in a week interacting with the poor.
Fortunately we paid all the expenses for the Awards before the DFID Audit.
After the disastrous last few days at least the staff can just relax.
Maybe we can enjoy themselves a little or try to forget for a while death of @InepdShane and @InepdShirley and the Inepd Collapse.
Just getting on the tram from central station and off to the Leidserplein and De Baile, where the awards are being held.
It is a grey cloudy evening. A bit cold but the weather maybe has promise of a brighter tomorrow. I hope so.
I will meet Gema my Personal Assistant and she will tweet part of the awards for me for the last time.
I will be doing introductions this evening and opening the Awards. Then George Baker will take over.
I will tweet again once of the tram and in De Baile.
Right have just arrived. We have a nice crowd this evening and the stage has already been setup.
I will just go back stage and meet the contestants and George Baker. The stage hands had to find extra stage supports to handle George's Hammond Organ.
We have 4 finalists. Terry and Michele from MSF, Pablo and Kadiatu from WFP, Avril and Celine from ACF and Tabitha and Owen from Oxfam.
They all seem delightful field types so not expecting much from the dress section of the contest.
I am a little suspicious of the Oxfam couple as I sure that in the London final Tabitha had another partner on 3 weeks ago.
Although 3 weeks is quite long for a humanitarian relationship the rules do state a couple has has to have been together for 6 weeks.
3 weekend R&Rs over a 4 month period is also a legitimate relationship under the rules.
The head judge tonight is Alex de Waal. I see him now. Give us a tweet @AdWaal.
We are now ready to start. I am going to hand the tweets over to Gema now for a little while.
Hi everyone I am Gema @InepdMercedes PA and I will be tweeting for her for a while.
@InepdMercedes is now stepping onto the stage to introduce the Humanitarian Couple of the Year Awards.
She steps to the microphone and pauses. Her head is looking down. She seems as if she is trying to compose herself.
She now looks up. Wipes a tear from her eye.
She gives a defiant smile which makes her look a little manic with her mascara running and her lippy a bit smeared. A bit Sunset Boulevard.
She welcomes everyone and thanks all those for attending. She also gives a warm welcome to the 5 other award venues around the world.
It is the first time the event has been simulcast globally. Just great the having voting delegations from London, New York, Sydney, Mumbai and Addis Ababa.
She reminds that tonight is a special occasion for all humanitarian around the world and for love.
@InepdMercedes reminds of the tragic deaths in Niger of @InepdShane and @InepdShirley two contestants who would have been in tonight's final.
She now asks for one minute silence to remember.
Right we are into the 3rd minute of the silence and @InepdMercedes still hasn't pulled her head up.
Crowd starting to get a little restless and perturbed by the continuing silence.
Now she's back with us. Her mascara is now a mess and we have moved from Sunset Boulevard to lady Godiva.
Now she says, lets get on with the show and a big welcome to George Baker.
Warm applause form the crowd.
George walks onto to stage and to his Hammond Organ.
The band begins to play and he starts to tinkle the organ with his feet and welcomes everyone to this very special awards.
Everyone recongnises the song, fantastic he is now opening with Una Paloma Blanca.
The crowd is really getting into this classic. It looks like for the first time in days @InepdMercedes is a able to relax a little.
The Inepd Staff table is also starting to enjoy themselves. It looks like it is going to be a fun night after all.
George Baker is just finishing the song.
He is slowly get off his stool.
Right he's on his feet and walking to the standing mike to introduce the contestants and judges.
Ok few more paces and he is nearly at the mike maybe three more paces.
There is a commotion at the back of the room. 3 people have just walked in knocking over 2 people standing by the bar.
There is a tall man with a long black overcoat and black t-shirt, a woman in Harem pants and what looks like a malnourished child in an ill fitting grubby hemp suit.
They march right upto the microphone.
George Baker is just about to grab it, but too late. The tall man in the black overcoat has got the microphone just before George.
He has a thick German accent.
As he begins to talk the woman in the Harem pants gets a chair and places a big board with a photo of a couple on the chair.
Wait a minute the photo is of @InedShane and @InepdShirley.
The tall man accuses Inepd International of muddering (I think he means murdering) @InepdShane and @InepdShirley
He says the awards should already be over and that @InepdShane and @InepdShirley should be the winners.
Just at this moment it looks like @InepdKelvin has walked in and bumped right into Gary from Accounts.
He calls other Inepd Staff and they begin to chase @InepdKelvin This is absolute chaos.
@InepdMercedes and @AdWaal and screaming for security to get them out.
The tall man says his name is Klaus and the other woman says she is Bakti and that @InepdShane and @InepdShirley were there friends.
The man then asks to know where @InepdMercedes is.
The security guards are coming for Klaus and Bakti. Klaus and Bakti run behind the stage and the set and curtains are knocked down.
Some of the contestants have gone to their defence but others are trying to catch them as well.
The crowd is really agitated and is rushing for the exits, knocking over tables, breaking glasses.
@InepdMercedes has hid under a table I am following her to get away.
I have found @InepdMercedes. We are joined by the Malnourished child. @InepdMercedes is frightened by her gaunt face and appearance.
@InepdMercedes says to the malnourished child "don't be frightened you terribly thin child, you are free from those beastly people now".
The girl says I am not a child, I am a vegan. I am Sigrid & @InepdShane & @InepdShirley are dead because of you, you british bitch.
How dare you, you filthy vegan, vegetarian type activist.
I have had enough and I am getting out of this. I am giving the tweets back to @InepdMercedes.
It is @InepdMercedes here I am back. I have just made a quick escape through the fire exit and am now on leidsestraat.
I am now walking up the Prinsengracht canal.
I will just keep walking now. Everything has just collapsed. The end of Inepd International.
The Grand Final of the Humanitarian Couple of Year Awards in chaos.
I will come back in maybe in a while and give a final goodbye from Inepd International and myself. The last Inepd tweeter.
I have just walked like seems hours through the streets of Amsterdam. By the canals and houses at all angles. Now in the West of Amsterdam.
I have just sat down by some water. On the other side of the water is an large polar bear.
Just a statue but it looks so dignified and calm.
Something makes me feel at home here and maybe I will stay a while.
My last tweet. This is the Inepd End.
